Granite
Counter Top
Granite
countertops are surprisingly resilient to stains, and
practically impossible to scratch. But, as a preventative
measure, blot (do not wipe) up any spills on the countertops
within a reasonable amount of time. Don't let liquid sit on
countertops overnight. Granite is most prone to staining by oil
and acid, so blot these spills up soon after they happen, and
then clean the stone with products created for stone care.

The best care you can give your natural stone is preventative care.
Prevent etch marks, stains or scratches before they happen.

Counter Top
Marble
countertops and tabletops are easily stained by acidic foods like fruit,
tomato sauce, coffee, and wine. Blot, do not wipe, any spills
immediately, then clean with a neutral PH or stone care product. Always use
coasters, pads or mats to place hot pots, dishware or containers.

definitions
Etch, etching, etch-mark: mark of
corrosion produced by acidic substances when coming in contact with stones
rich in minerals reactive to acids (Calcite, Chlorine, etc.). Looks like a
watermark. Usually a stone polish can remove an etch, in some cases the
use of powders or diamonds may need to be included in the restoration with
a final polish.
Stain: usually appears darker than
the stone and is imbedded into the stones surface, can not be wiped of. A poultice may be the only way to
remove the stain.
